In any challenge or will contest, the court’s priority is establishing your financial need, although in Australia each state has a different rule. The following advice covers all states, so at the time of the hearing the court will consider:

Your age, your conduct and your character will be taken into consideration, and also your relationship with the will-maker, whether it was of long duration, and the nature of it and whether the deceased had any obligations to you or other beneficiaries.
Whether you contributed to the welfare of the deceased, made any contributions to the estate, either financial or not; the size of the estate and any of its liabilities.
Your earning ability and financial resources (and those of anyone living with you), plus your present and future needs along with those of other beneficiaries.
Whether you have any physical, mental or intellectual disability – and whether any other beneficiaries have such disabilities.
If you ever benefited from or were provided for by the deceased’s estate in your lifetime.
If you were wholly or partly maintained by the deceased before their death, to what extent and on what basis.
